Using the Internet to Learn Roulette

He was born in Helsinki, Finland, in 1983 and was very competitive Auto-Lotto Processor Review in sports such as soccer and diving until his teenage years. During his teenage years his interests shifted and he began playing billiards - even winning the Finnish Junior Championships twice. When he was 15 years-old he watched a television programme about Texas Hold'em.

The programme left Ziigmund fascinated and after talking about the game with his billiard friends he was invited to a home poker game with them. The game was hosted at fellow high stakes player Patrik Antonius' home. After playing the game for real with his friends Ziigmund was left hooked and even began skipping school in order to play poker. When Ziigmund finally graduated from school at 18 years-old he began playing in the cash games at the Grand Casino Helsinki.

By 2002 Ziigmund was a regular winner at the casino and decided to take his game online. He joined several online poker sites and deposited, beginning at the $50 No-Limit Hold'em and Pot-Limit Omaha games. Ziigmund had instant success in these games, but his downfall would be bankroll management. After a few winning sessions he would move up to higher stakes and take shots, only to go broke. This happened to him several times but he always managed to rebuild his bankroll thanks to his aggressive style. Ziigmund built his bankroll by playing 15-hour sessions every day, multi-tabling the games. Quickly Ziigmund had built a fearsome reputation on European sites, so much that few players would play against him.

After dominating all of the European internet poker sites, Ziigmund opened a Full Tilt Poker account in 2006. At this time the biggest games available on Full Tilt Poker were $25/$50 NLHE and $50/$100 PLO. Ziigmund became a regular fixture in these games, playing against players such as Phil Ivey, Tom 'durrrr' Dwan, Gus Hansen, his friend Patrik Antonius, and many others. Since 2006 the games have grown and the highest limits available on Full Tilt Poker are now $500/$1000 where Ziigmund is a regular winner. According to Ziigmund has won $3.4 million playing at Full Tilt Poker. This number would be much more, but Ziigmund used to have a habit of playing drunk and flipping pots worth hundreds of thousands. He has also been well known for his chat antics, often referring to Gus Hansen as a fish and calling players lucky, which makes for fun viewing!

Want to go to Russia (St Petersburg) for 72 hours without a visa? I did it, and will attempt to create a fairly comprehensive guide for those interested.

For many countries' citizens, including almost all of the west, a visa is required to enter Russia. However, there is one notable exception. Here are the basic rules and info:
  1. You can only stay in Russia for 72 hours. The clock starts once you cross Russian border control after getting off the ferry in the morning.
  2. You must book a round-trip ferry with St. Peter Line. They have everything arranged so you follow all the rules. You must enter AND leave Russia via this ferry. You may not enter or leave by plane, bus, train, car, horse, etc.
  3. You must book a tour. Now, this is a bit of a gray area. St Peter Line automatically books you a $25 "tour" that is literally a shuttle bus between the ferry terminal and St Isaac's Cathedral (plus a few other places along the way but the cathedral is the most central). You can ride it as many times as you want. If you want to purchase a different guided tour then I don't believe you need to purchase the shuttle bus "tour". Technically you are supposed to stay on the guided tour the entire time but this is a bit of a loophole that St Peter Line takes advantage of (don't worry you won't get in trouble with any Russian authorities).
  4. You may not leave St Petersburg and go anywhere else in Russia. This is another gray area (e.g. I'm not sure if Peterhof is okay but your time will be limited enough as it is so just stay in the center) but I would not abuse this one. You're doing that at your own risk.
  5. You also may book a cruise (e.g. it stops at each port for a limited time) and enjoy 72 hours visa-free with St Peter Line or another company (some companies this doesn't apply to so be careful). If you do this you MUST return to the boat each night. You cannot book accomodation.
  6. If you book the ferry then you can stay in a hostel, hotel, or probably an AirBnb or with a friend (another gray area, you're supposed to have a booking confirmation but we were not asked to present it at any time). So hostel or hotel is safer. You may stay 2 nights maximum.
  7. The boats do hold cars but you need a visa to travel with a car.
Other general information:
  1. There are two boats: Princess Maria and Princess Anastasia. Maria only goes between Helsinki and St Petersburg and Anastasia travels different combinations of routes between Stockholm, Helsinki, St Petersburg and Tallinn.
  2. From Tallinn or Helsinki your journey is about 14 hours and will most likely be overnight, arriving around 8 AM. From Stockholm it's more like 38 hours and still leaves in the evening and arrives around 8 AM just with another day in between.
  3. The boats are essentially cruise ships (they use them for the cruises as well) with restaurants, live entertainment and a casino (though rumors are it's rigged so be careful). The food is decent but the service is generally unfriendly. The entertainment quality varies. Which brings me to my next point.
  4. How much does this all cost? It's actually quite affordable. It's best to go in a group of 2, honestly. The cheapest cabins sleep 2 and have private bathrooms. For round trip ferry (and 2 nights accomodation on board) was 188 euro for 2 people, so less than 100 each. That includes the mandatory $25 "tour". But you get a bit of the Ryanair treatment. Nothing is included; if you want to watch a movie, swim in the pool or even use the wifi you will have to pay. The free wifi is very good in the Helsinki terminal though (but not in St Petersburg.)
  5. Don't drink the boat tap water! Not even for teeth brushing. My friend got sick and we aren't sure it was from that but it was probable. In general don't drink the tap water in Russia either.
  6. You aren't allowed to bring food or alcohol on board. I wasn't aware and had food in my bag but the bags go through a scanner and no one said anything. So do what you want.
Personally I'd recommend Maria from Helsinki. That's what I did and the route for Anastasia is a bit odd. (Sidenote: if you're in Tallinn, take the super nice ferry to Helsinki!) Remember you have to leave within 72 hours and the ferries don't run every day (most days though). So for example here was my route.
Depart Helsinki September 23rd 18:00, arrive St Petersburg September 24th 8:30.
So I had until roughly September 27th at 8:30 to leave. But you'll have to leave the night before.
So I booked the 24th and 25th in a hostel, and the return ferry was the 26th and left St Petersburg at 17:00. But if there happens to be no return ferry on that date, you'll need to leave a day earlier or change your departure date.
The process:
It's honestly a lot simpler than I originally thought even though I'm going into a bit of detail here. Basically:
  1. Book your round trip ferry and be sure the dates are within 72 hours like I mentioned above. If you really wanna do Anastasia it might be worth contacting St Peter Line to confirm the schedule and how long it stops at each port. You will have the option during booking to add lots of extras like meals and such. I recommend passing on all of these. For the cheapest option for 2 select the B2 cabin and the mandatory shuttle bus "tour".
  2. Book accomodation for the 2 nights in between.
  3. Print your booking confirmation for both the boat and your accomodation. Don't forget your passport either.
  4. You may check in for the ferry several hours early if you want and up until about an hour before (I think 30 min in Helsinki but don't push it, get there earlier). You need your passport and your boat booking confirmation. You will receive a boarding card, arrival card and departure card. The boarding card is also your room key and has your room number on it.
  5. You can get on the boat now if you wish or wait until later depending on how much time you have. You'll go through Schengen exit border control and security.
  6. Enjoy the boat! I recommend getting down to the exit point a bit early the next morning to beat the queue at Russian border control. It won't matter as much going back into Schengen.
  7. Give the Russian border agent your passport and arrival card. They will keep the arrival card and fill out a migration card for you. Don't lose it. You get to see what your name looks like in Russian.
  8. Look for small unmarked vans outside (I'm serious). These are the "tour" shuttles. Show them your departure card but hold onto it. They'll take you to the city center. You already paid for this so might as well take advantage of it. Don't get ripped off by a taxi.
  9. Enjoy St. Petersburg! They may ask at your accomodation for your visa but explain your situation and show them the papers and you'll be fine.
  10. Don't miss your shuttle and especially don't miss the ferry back. You'll receive the shuttle schedule at check-in the first time. Don't worry, there will be a convoy of the vans each time so there is room. I don't recommend taking the last one.
  11. Remember to check in again at the terminal before going to passport control! You'll receive a second boarding card. When passing through Russian border control again give them your passport, the boarding card, departure card and the stamped card you got the first time. They'll keep the latter two papers.
  12. Enjoy the ferry back and the fact that you made it to Russia visa-free!
Useful info for Russia:
  1. You won't have anywhere near enough time to really explore St Petersburg but you'll get a nice taste. Do NOT miss the Hermitage/Winter Palace complex. It is incredible and you could spend 72 hours there alone. Cathedral of Spilled Blood is awesome too. Do a walking tour. Eat at Marketplace and Teremok. Try Georgian food too if you can. Soul Kitchen is supposed to be a fantastic hostel. I stayed at Cubahostel which was decent. I'm not going too in depth in this area, do more research on your own :)
  2. It helps to learn the Cyrillic alphabet because words are pronounced as they are spelled and many sound like English words. This was definitely rewarding and quite useful.
Also you may read that you need a letter of invitation or a paid hotel voucher. You don't. Only for a visa. Maybe TECHNICALLY you do but everyone I asked including St Peter line and my hostel said just bring a booking confirmation. We were not asked to present this but it's definitely worth bringing.
Anything else I missed feel free to ask in the comments. I did ramble a bit here because I'm on a flight with nowhere to go but honestly the process is much simpler than I originally thought. Do it. St Petersburg is a beautiful city.

JaguarGator9's Week 9 Weird Stat Thread Analysis

I haven't done this before, but someone requested it, so I'm gonna see what I can do. As you guys know, I post my weird stats every week, and you can check out the week 9 thread here. Thanks for all the support on that.
So, with that in mind, did the stats hold up this week? Obviously, I'm only taking a look at the stats that could've changed this week; anything involving historic things (like the Packers/Panthers game from 1999) or future things (like Broncos' Super Bowls in relationship to songs) won't be looked at. With that being said, let's take a look.
The last time the Rams won an outdoors game against the Vikings was in 1985.
Vikings win. That one holds up.
The Rams have never won a game played against the Vikings in the month of November in Minnesota. The Rams are 0-5-1 in those games.
Make that 0-6-1. Vikings win.
A music-related stat: The Panthers have won four times against the Packers. All 4 times have been when the #1 album of the previous year, according to Billboard sales, was one word.
Year of Panthers’ Victory Previous Year’s #1 Album
1999 Titanic (1998)
2000 Millennium (1999)
2005 Confessions (2004)
2008 Daughtry (2007)
Luckily for the Panthers, last year’s #1 album was… Frozen. Based off of that stat, there’s a chance for Carolina on Sunday.
That one held up. The music related one still works somehow.
Additionally, the Panthers have won 4 times against the Packers. When the Packers lose to the Panthers in the regular season, they have never made the postseason. Keep in mind that since Carolina entered the league, Green Bay has only missed the playoffs 5 times; 4 of those were when playing and losing to the Panthers.
Don't think that one's gonna hold up, but with the Vikings tied for first in that division now, you never know.
The turnover margin in games between Tennessee and New Orleans has been exactly 1 five times. When the turnover margin is exactly 1, Tennessee is 5-0. When the turnover margin is anything other than 1 in favor of Tennessee, Tennessee is 2-5-1.
Make that 6-0. Titans won the turnover battle by exactly 1.
New England has beaten Washington three times. All three times have been when the #1 R&B/Soul/Hip-Hop single of the year, according to Billboard, was sung by a female artist AND had a 3-word title.
Year of Patriots Victory #1 Single of Previous Year
1972 Mr. Big Stuff (Jean Knight- 1971)
2007 Be Without You (Mary J. Blige- 2006)
2011 Un-Thinkable (I’m Ready) (Alicia Keys- 2010)
When the song does not meet that criteria, New England is 0-6. The #1 R&B/Soul/Hip-Hop single of last year was “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. Good news for Washington.
Doesn't hold up anymore. New England won.
The three times that New England won against Washington, the host city of the EuroVision Song Contest was hosting for the first time. In 1972, Edinburgh hosted for the first time ever. In 2007, Helsinki hosted for the first time ever. And, in 2011, Dusseldorf hosted for the first time ever. Unfortunately for New England, the host of the 2015 EuroVision Song Contest (Vienna) hosted the contest in 1967, so it was not their first time hosting. More good news for Washington.
Doesn't hold up. The 2 music stats can't save Washington today.
Since 1990, the Bills have swept the Dolphins eight times. Again, we’re doing a music related stat. The #1 song of the previous year was a multi-word title.
Year of Bills Sweep #1 Single of Previous Year
2013 Somebody That I Used to Know (Gotye featuring Kimbra- 2012)
2007 Bad Day (Daniel Powter- 2006)
2006 We Belong Together (Mariah Carey- 2005)
2004 In da Club (50 Cent- 2003)
1999 Too Close (Next- 1998)
1994 I Will Always Love You (Whitney Houston- 1993)
1991 Hold On (Wilson Phillips- 1990)
Why do I bring this up? The #1 single of last year was “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. The Bills won the first game of the series earlier in the year, so they can buck the trend if they can pull out the victory on Sunday.
Doesn't hold up anymore. Bills completed their sweep of the Dolphins with the #1 single being 1 word.
Every game played between the Jaguars and Jets in the month of November has been decided by 3 points or less
It was 5 points. Close, but no cigar.
The longest winning streak in the Jags/Jets series is 3. The Jets can match that with a win on Sunday
Jets matched that with their victory.
The last time the Jaguars beat an AFC East opponent on the road was in week 5 of 2010 against the Buffalo Bills
Still holds up. That's not good.
The last time the Jaguars won a road game was in week 13 of 2013 against the Cleveland Browns
Yeah... um...
The last time the Jaguars’ game following the bye week was against a non-divisional opponent and they won was in 2007, when they faced the Kansas City Chiefs coming off of their bye week
I don't wanna talk about it...
The last time the Jaguars won a road game in November against a non-divisional opponent was in 2009 against the New York Jets. They play the Jets this week.
You can imagine I wasn't a happy camper with today's game.
The last 4 meetings between the Jaguars and Jets have taken place in 4 differently named stadiums: Alltel Stadium (2006), Giants Stadium (2009), MetLife Stadium (2011), EverBank Field (2012)
Trend is over. MetLife Stadium hosted the game today.
Oakland is 0-3 against Pittsburgh in the month of November
Make that 0-4. Steelers win in dramatic fashion
Eli Manning has never lost to Tampa Bay
Still holds up, even if the Vegas casinos had a field day with the final few seconds of that game
Blaine Gabbert has never won a game played west of Indianapolis.
That wasn't supposed to happen
Blaine Gabbert has never thrown more than 2 touchdown passes in a game.
He threw 2 today. Doesn't break it, but hey, baby steps
In the last 2 meetings between the 49ers and the Falcons, the losing score was 24 points
16 points today by the Falcons lost it. That one doesn't hold up.
The last time the Eagles swept the Cowboys and didn't finish with a .500 record or better was 1964. Basically, sweeping the Cowboys almost guarantees success for Philadelphia.
We don't know if that's held up yet, but today's win was a very good sign for the Eagles, even though it wasn't a sweep.
Sam Bradford has never beaten the Dallas Cowboys. Considering the fact that Matt Cassel's completion percentage against the Eagles is over 75%, this may not be in a guaranteed win for Philly.
And... debunked. Sorry, Cowboys' fans. Bradford got his first win.

[EVENT] 12 members of parliament have been discovered committing fraud, extortion, and money laundering.

"The 12 members where all in compliance together. There scheme spanned through the Helsinki Casino to rural Mafias. In short, they where taking bribes of dirty money to secure votes in parliament, laundering the money through small businesses in Helsinki, and then putting it back through the government tax system. This is completely unacceptable in our Union. 3 of the twelve had priors in tax evasion, and 4 had prior misdemeanors involving the exchange of money. The fact this people where allowed to run this nation baffles our highest chairmen. We assure you, the Finnish people, this will never happen again."

[WP] God has a gambling problem
The Mirage Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas - 2:41 AM
“Sorry kid,” the bouncer said, not sounding sorry at all, “No shirt, no shoes, no service.”
The harsh light mounted over the back alley door revealed a shirtless, barefoot young man with sand across half his chest and a surfboard under one arm. “Please step aside. I am just here to pick up my Father. I’ll be gone in ten minutes.”
The bouncer didn’t budge from his spot in front of the door. “Did ya not hear me, kid? You gonna get herpes from some junkie’s needle if you keep walking around like that. You straight off the set of Point Break or something?”
With a soft oath, the young man glanced up and down the alley before dropping his surfboard and fishing a few bills out of his board shorts.
“Guess we are speaking the same lingo after all, kid.”
As the bouncer went to grab the cash, the door behind him slammed into his back, and a slight woman darted out and batted his hand away. “Carson! I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that. You’d be damned if the boss caught ya taking bribes.”
“Sorry Marcie.”
She gave the bouncer a quick up and down, as if to verify his sincerity, before turning to the young man, “And JC! I thought your father taught you better than that.”
“Well, he’s sure setting a great example now,” the young man muttered, as he bent to pick up his surf board from the pavement.
Marcie’s stern demeanor melted away, and she ushered the man inside to a dingy hallway. “Oh, you poor thing. How many times have I told you, call ahead if you’re coming. What are you doing, using this filthy side door?”
JC blushed, looking down at his bare feet. “I’d rather as few people as possible knew I was here. Talk about setting bad examples. Can you imagine the headlines?”
“Oh no, dear, of course. I wasn’t thinking.”
They came to a stop by a peeling door, and Marcie unlocked the door with shaking hands. “I sure am glad you’re here. The stakes are getting rather high.”
JC paused, one hand on the doorknob. “Princess Diana-high or Black Plague-high?”
Marcie grimaced and tugged the end of her graying ponytail. “I don’t know. But Michael told me they were up to transatlantic flights before your dad kicked him and Gabe out an hour ago.”
“Looks like we’ll both be cleaning up messes tonight. Bless you, Marcie.”
He pushed open the door and emerged into a gambler’s paradise. Tables for roulette, blackjack and pool were strewn across the floor seemingly without end, and a glittering onyx bar beginning near the door faded into the smoky blackness of the room. Scantily clad waitresses strutted back and forth, carrying trays of drinks into the darkness, but all of them gave a card table near the bar a wide berth. JC headed there.
One of the men at the table went to pour both occupants more scotch and caught sight of the furious young surfer. With a disappointed sigh, he asked “Jesus, you couldn’t take two seconds to put on a shirt before visiting?”
The other man threw back his scotch. “JC’s in Fiji, surfing. Speaking of which, I raise you Kiribati. If I win this hand, you have to delay it from sinking into the sea for another hundred years.”
JC clasped a hand around his Father’s, stopping him from shoving more chips into the center of the pockmarked table. “Actually, Dad, I’m right here. And you really need to stop gambling with people’s lives.”
“Oh come now,” the other man said, swirling his scotch. “Your father knows what he’s doing. And he’s been winning all night. Why not now?”
“Yeah, JC,” slurred God, turning around to face his son. “It’s my lucky night.”
JC hooked his hands under his father’s arms and pulled him upright. “Come on Dad. What would Mom say if she saw you like this?”
“I think dear Mary would realize that the ends justify the means. Your father stopped a school shooting in St. Louis, a mine collapse in Peru and a train derailment in Helsinki.”
JC glared at the smug man across the table from his father. “Shut up, Uncle Luc. Nobody asked you.”
Lucifer swept up God’s fallen hand and shuffled the deck. “Then I will see you next time, old sport. Don’t look at me like that, Jesus. There will be a next time. You of all people know how very…tempting I can be.”
JC dragged his father out of Lucifer’s den of inequity, past waitresses scrupulously avoiding eye contact, past a relieved Marcie and a stunned Carson, and into a waiting limo in the alley.
As the limo pulled away, God poured himself a scotch from the mini bar “My car…”
JC leaned back into the plush upholstery. “I’ll tell Gabriel to pick it up tomorrow, when he settles your tab.”
God looked out the window, as the lights of Las Vegas flashed by. “Didn’t you have a surfboard a minute ago?”
“Don’t change the subject Dad.”
Both Father and Son watched the replica Statue of Liberty emerge from between two high rises as the limo swung onto the freeway.
“You know, the Isère, the French ship bearing the Statue of Liberty, was doomed to sink while crossing the Atlantic. But I won its safe passage in a single hand of Blackjack with Satan.”
“Yeah, Dad, I know. But you also lost the Titanic, and the Sultana and the Le Joola.” Jesus ran a hand through his long hair, showering his shoulders and the seat with sand. “And now it’s not just boats, now it’s trains and cars and planes, Dad!”
“Jesus, I know, I know. Sometimes I dig myself into a hole. I lose big, and people blame me. ‘Oh God, why did you let this tornado destroy my house?’ Well, I had a straight, but Lucifer had a full house. But I win a lot too, and almost nobody notices when I win. The media doesn’t have a field day with a troubled kid who decides to seek counseling instead of taking a gun to class, or a storm that never happens.”
“Well maybe we should have a weekly bulletin. ‘Dear Christian Faithful, this week, God won some lives playing poker, read about it on page 3.”
God ignored his sarcastic son. “And is it a moral burden, that some people have died because of my actions, while others have lived? Of course, but none of them would have existed but for me. I am no stranger to the weight of life and death. Perhaps my methods are unbecoming. Perhaps gambling is a vice. Yet, humans gamble with their lives everyday, so why shouldn’t I get to join in the fun?
God laughed bitterly. “No, no, no. I just wish…I just wanted to help ease the suffering of humanity. I played the Devil’s game. I will never forgive myself for the bargains I have made, for the bets I have placed, but I could never have forgiven myself if I hadn’t taken the opportunity to perhaps change the world for the better.”
“Nice monologue Dad. No wonder nobody goes to church anymore. You’re all doom and gloom.”
“Well that’s not true,” God snapped, sobriety abruptly returning. “Number’s have been up ever since Francis took office.”
“Whatever Dad,” Jesus stood up in the limo, space bending to accommodate this movement. “I’m going back to Fiji. Have fun telling Mom where you go every Friday night. Spoiler alert: I already told her you weren’t at Bible study.” And Jesus vanished with a completely unnecessary crack.
God glared at the spot where his Son had been just moments ago. “I already knew that! I’m omniscient!” Of course, the sand his Son had left behind gave no response. “Crap.”
Even though only a few hours have gone by, I can already tell that long-windedness is a serious problem of mine. Not every detail or "witticism" that crosses my mind needs to make it onto the page (or at least shouldn't survive to the final draft [not that this is a final draft]).
